Run an AI continuity check before beta readers
Catch eye-colour swaps, timeline slips and vanished subplots using your bible and an AI assistant.
Steps
- Export your manuscript in chunks the assistant can handle (check its stated upload limits).
- Give it your series bible first, then each chunk, with the continuity prompt.
- Treat every flag as a lead to check, not a verdict: AI tools can misread or invent contradictions.
- Track dates in a timeline tool such as Aeon Timeline for multi-POV books.
Copy-ready prompts
Here is my series bible, then a chapter. Flag any place where the chapter contradicts the bible or itself (names, appearance, ages, dates, travel times, who knows what). Quote both passages for each flag. If unsure, say so.
Tools for this workflow
- Aeon Timeline: Continuity checking in complex or multi-POV series.
- Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM): Asking questions of your own series bible and previous books for continuity.
- Claude: Long-manuscript critique and developmental feedback.
- ChatGPT: Brainstorming, outlining, critique and a custom GPT loaded with your style sheet.
AI output can be wrong. Check facts and keep final prose in your own voice. See using AI responsibly.
