A 30-minute daily writing routine with AI support
For busy writers: a short, repeatable session that keeps the book moving.
Steps
- 5 min: reread yesterday's last paragraph and your scene card.
- 20 min: draft with no editing. Dictate if typing is hard (Otter.ai or your phone's voice typing).
- 5 min: paste the session into an assistant for a facts extraction for your bible, and a one-line 'next scene' note.
Copy-ready prompts
Summarise what happened in this writing session in 3 bullets, list new facts for my series bible, and suggest 3 options for what the next scene could do.
Tools for this workflow
- Otter.ai: Dictating scenes or transcribing interviews and voice memos.
- Google Docs: Sharing chapters with beta readers and editors.
- Claude: Long-manuscript critique and developmental feedback.
- ChatGPT: Brainstorming, outlining, critique and a custom GPT loaded with your style sheet.
AI output can be wrong. Check facts and keep final prose in your own voice. See using AI responsibly.
